Troops from the 5 Battalion, operating under the 16 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, have raided a militants’ camp and recovered armouries.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that this took place in the Azuzuama Community, located in the Ijaw South Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
According to an official statement released by Brigadier General Onyeama Nwachukwu, the army’s spokesman, the planned raid was accomplished on Sunday, June 25.
The statement has it that the troops displayed exceptional skill and utilised their superior firepower to subdue the suspected militants, forcing them into disarray and prompting them to abandon their camp.
The success of the operation resulted in the seizure of a significant arsenal of weaponry. Among the items recovered were five AK-47 rifles, two rocket-propelled grenade bombs, four rocket grenade bomb chargers, seven 7.62mm special ammunition, 14 AK-47 rifle magazines, and a pumping machine. Additionally, the troops uncovered various other tools and materials, including two 16-inch anchored verve, a mallet hammer, a pipe range spinner, and an axe. To ensure the eradication of the illicit camp, it was promptly destroyed by the diligent troops.
Expressing their gratitude, the Nigerian Army extended their appreciation to the public for their support and called upon them to continue providing timely and credible information. The army emphasised the importance of this collaboration, highlighting its role in the ongoing efforts to bring oil theft in the South-South region to a complete halt.
