Just a week after 11 Nigerian girls trafficked to Ghana were rescued, two additional girls were saved on Monday, according to Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM).
According to Dabiri-Erewa, the rescue operation was facilitated by the Nigerians in Diaspora Organization (NIDO) Ghana, led by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Chief Calistus.
She said the two girls are now in safe custody, and efforts are underway to return them to Nigeria, where they will be handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).
Dabiri-Erewa noted that the rescued girls are providing valuable information to help track down their traffickers, who deceived them into prostitution.
The rescued girls, both residents of Lagos, include one from Edo and another from Lagos.
This incident follows the recent rescue of 11 girls, aged 15 to 16, from Imo and Plateau states, who were trafficked to Ghana under the false promise of employment as salesgirls but were instead sold into prostitution.
