Some yet-to-be-identified gunmen have kidnapped Nanleg Gotus, the head of the Tal Chiefdom in Pankshin Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau State, North-Central Nigeria.
POLITICS NIGERIA learned that the incident happened on Monday.
Following the abduction of the traditional ruler, the criminals have reportedly contacted palace officials demanding a N50 million ransom.
DSP Alfred Alabo, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state confirmed the incident on Tuesday. He added that the command had deployed security personnel to rescue Gotus.
Also on Monday, the terrorists attacked Jannaret town in Mangu LGA, killing one person and injuring two others.
Several government interventions in Plateau have failed to stop the predatory crime of kidnapping for ransom.
Piqued by the rising insecurity, Simon Lalong, who is the governor of the state and Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum (NGF), called for the establishment of state police last week.
According to him, state police would go a long way in addressing the security challenges in the north and other parts of Nigeria.
