
The United States of America on Monday announced the closure of its Embassies in Abuja and the consulate in Lagos.
In a statement posted on its social media page, the US Mission in Nigeria said its offices will be closed on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, in line with the public holiday announced by the Federal Government.
Recall that the Nigerian government through the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo had declared Tuesday, July 15, a public holiday.
According to the minister, the public holiday was declared in honour of the late former president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari who died in a London Hospital on Sunday at the age of 82.
The minister said the public holiday is in addition of the seven-day mourning period and announced by the Federal Government in honour of the late president.
All flags across the country will also be flown at half-mast in honour of the late Buhari.
In its notice, the US Mission in Nigeria said, “The U.S. Embassy in Abuja and Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, in observance of the public holiday declared by the Nigerian government in honour of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“All visa appointments slated for July 15 2025, will be rescheduled,” the statement said.
