The Spokesperson of the Nigerian Police Force, Muyiwa Adejobi has stated that the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba did not order the shutdown of Intelligence and Special Tactical squads around the country.
It was widely reported that the IGP has ordered the shutdown of all IRT formations around the country in the wake of top cop, Abba Kyari’s indictment and arrest for Drug Trafficking by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA on Monday.
Adejobi told newsmen; “The report is untrue, the IGP didn’t shut IRT and tactical squads in the country,”.
An embattled Kyari is now in the custody of the NDLEA were he has been facing serious grilling over his involvement in drug trafficking after the agency released damning photos and evidence .
NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, at a press briefing in Abuja on Monday revealed that Kyari was a member of a drug cartel that operates the Brazil-Ethiopia-Nigeria illicit drug pipeline.
