Former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has shared his stance on the conditions under which he would accept an appointment if offered by President Bola Tinubu.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that during a media chat in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, Wike revealed his thoughts on the matter.
This comes after he mentioned in a recent interview with BBC Pidgin that he would consult his wife and friends if Tinubu presented him with an appointment.
Wike emphasised that he is not actively seeking an appointment and stated that circumstances would play a significant role in his decision-making process.
He expressed that being given an appointment does not automatically make him important; instead, he would carefully consider the capacity in which he would serve if Tinubu were to call him.
“I cannot simply be important because you have given me an appointment. There are two things to consider. Firstly, Mr. President has not contacted me. With all due respect, if Mr. President were to call and ask me to serve, I would inquire about the specific role he has in mind. If he provides the details, I would respond with gratitude,” Wike explained.
He further emphasised the importance of consulting his political team and family before making any decisions.
“I need to have discussions with my political team and family. I won’t simply make a hasty decision without consulting anyone. I am not pleading for an appointment. It’s important to have a comprehensive understanding of how things work. You shouldn’t ask whether I would accept or decline. Such a question is inappropriate at my level. The circumstances will determine the outcome. You never know,” Wike stated.
It is worth noting that Wike has shown a level of support towards the All Progressives Congress (APC), led by Tinubu, before and after the presidential election on February 25.
Despite belonging to the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Wike did not endorse the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
