The Yobe State Government, led by Governor Mai Mala Buni, on Saturday ordered the closure of all boarding secondary schools in the state as a precautionary measure to protect students.

The directive followed a security meeting between Governor Buni and state security chiefs, which reviewed recent security incidents affecting schools in various parts of the country.

According to a press statement signed by the Governor’s Director General of Press and Media Affairs, Mohammed Mamman, a notice issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Bukar Aji Bukar, instructed the immediate closure of all secondary schools until the security situation improves.

Governor Buni also urged residents to pray for the leadership, security operatives, and for peace and improved security across the nation, Mamman added.

This follows Niger, Adamawa, Taraba, Plateau, Kebbi, and other states that have shut down all primary and secondary schools due to security threats, following the mass abduction of students and teachers in Kebbi and Niger States.
