Kaduna PDP demands release of by-election candidate, campaign DG from EFCC custody

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna has raised alarm over the continued detention of its Chikun/Kajuru federal constituency by-election candidate, Princess Esther Dawaki, and campaign director general, Shehu Fatangi, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

At a press briefing on Tuesday, PDP state chairman, Edward Masha, alleged that the arrests were part of a wider plot to stifle opposition.

He said Dawaki was invited by the EFCC on Monday, August 25, and has remained in custody, while Fatangi has been held for 12 days despite meeting bail conditions.

“We find this development deeply troubling. It raises questions about the space for fair competition in our democracy. Our demand is simple: the immediate release of our candidate and campaign DG,” Masha said.

The party further accused security agencies of disrupting its activities and warned that it may mobilise supporters for peaceful demonstrations if its members are not released.

Masha called on EFCC chairman, Olanipekun Olukoyede, to intervene, adding that the PDP in Kaduna will continue to resist intimidation and defend democratic principles.
