The Kaduna State government has lifted the suspension on Future Leaders International Schools, Unguwan Rimi. The school was shut down due to the violation of COVID-19 protocols a year and five months ago.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the school’s operating license was revoked on June 11, 2020, for not following the state’s COVID-19 Quarantine Order by holding entrance examinations of junior and senior secondary classes.
At that time, government officials found 70 pupils and students, 34 teaching and non-teaching staffers, including construction workers, around the school premises. Half of the pupils and students did not wear masks, putting them at risk of contracting COVID-19.
Dr Shehu Makarfi, the then Commissioner for Education, said that the action of the school contradicted the order for all schools in the state to remain closed.
As of this Thursday, The Permanent Secretary, the Ministry of Education, Dr Yusuf Saleh, stated that the Kaduna State Government had approved all academic activities at the school to resume as before. This will come into effect starting from Monday, November 8.
However, Saleh and the Ministry of Education reminded the school and proprietors of other private schools of the strict compliance to the laws and regulations.
“Parents and guardians may wish to contact the school for information about the recommencement of academic sessions for their children and wards,” said Dr Saleh.
