Kano workers to Tinubu: Keep your palliatives, return fuel subsidy

The Kano state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has blasted the Bola Tinubu-led federal government over its “deceptive” palliative distribution plan aimed at mitigating the effects of the fuel subsidy removal.

The chapter, which joined the national body’s nationwide protest over the fuel subsidy removal, maintained that just two months into Bola Tinubu’s administration, the president “had declared war on the masses with his unpopular policies”.

Chairman of the NLC in Kano, Kabiru Inuwa, said the union was not a political party and would never play politics with the lives of Nigerians.

He expressed shock that the government had planned to stop the protest through a court order, saying it showed unfriendliness to Nigerians.

Inuwa further complained that the committees set up by the government to address issues on fuel subsidy removal, wages and other matters never sat, slamming Tinubu’s nationwide address after they threatened a strike.

”We don’t want Tinubu’s palliatives,” the protesting workers chorused in response to Inuwa’s response while demanding a return of the subsidy regime.
