Convicted kidnapper Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans, has once again pleaded for a plea bargain, claiming he is no longer a criminal.
Appearing before Justice Sherifat Sonaike of the Lagos High Court, Tafawa Balewa Square, Evans stated that he has transformed during his time at Kirikiri Maximum Correctional Centre, where he now works as a teacher after earning a diploma in economics from Yewa College of Education.
As part of his plea, Evans has offered to surrender all his properties, including 14 brand-new trucks, with the proceeds going to compensate his victims.
This marks the second time Evans is making such a request. His first attempt was before Justice Adenike Coker of the Lagos High Court, Ikeja, on January 30, 2025.
Evans, who has five criminal cases in Lagos, has already been convicted twice, receiving a life sentence in one case and 21 years in another.
His lawyer, Etudo Emefo, argued that the Lagos State Government’s forgiveness is crucial for him to make use of a Federal Government scholarship he was granted while in prison.
The Lagos State Government has confirmed receipt of the plea bargain application and has set up a committee to review it.
Justice Sonaike has adjourned the case to April 17, 2025, for a report on the plea bargain or trial continuation if the application is rejected.
