Twelve policemen, who were kidnapped by bandits along Katsina-Zamfara expressway, embarked on a journey to Zamfara State in mufti and were unarmed.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the police officers, who are Assistant Superintendents of Police with the Borno State Police Command, were kidnapped two weeks ago.
According to a report on This Day, the policemen embarked on the journey by night without informing the command of their departure to Zamfara State on a special assignment. The report noted that the officers failed to inform the Borno State Commissioner of Police of their plan to travel by night and unarmed.
It was also learned that nine policemen were abducted and not twelve as reported in the media and that N100 million ransom was demanded by the bandits for the release of the policemen.
As of the time of filing this report, it was gathered that five of the kidnapped officers have been released while four remained in captivity. It was learned that two officers were released initially, while three were released between Wednesday and Thursday.
