The Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate in the upcoming Kogi state governorship election, Muritala Yakubu Ajaka, has accused Governor Yahaya Bello of threatening to kill him.
Ajaka said Governor Bello is scared of his popularity insisting that he was not allowed to contest during the governorship primary of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).
The SDP candidate, who was a guest on ChannelsTV programme Politics Today, revealled that Governor Bello “procured” a court order restraining him for participating in the APC primary election.
“Immediately after the primary, where I was excluded, I made the case before the former President, Muhamadu Buhari. I told him Bello was a threat to my life. He told me to put it into writing, which I did,” Ajaka said.
“I also informed the then-m IG that Yahayah Bello had threatened to kill me. My petition is before the former IG, the former president, and the former NSA. Also worthy of note is that since I moved from APC to SDP, it has been attack upon attack.”
Ajaka urged Bello to create a level-playing field for all candidates in the state since he is only campaigning for the APC candidate, Ahmed Usman-Ododo.
“He should allow us to compete. I am not saying it is a crime to campaign for his candidate; I am saying that he should allow us to tell the people of the state what we can do for them and let them make their choice.”
Ajaka also accused Governor Bello of having history of violence as other contestants in the state have suffered similar fate.
