Security operatives in Kogi State have rearrested nine out of 12 inmates who escaped from the Federal Correctional Facility Centre, Kotonkarfe on Monday, March 24.
Confirming the rearrest of the escapees, the Kogi State’s commissioner for information and communication, Kingsley Fanwo said a thorough investigation has been launched to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Fanwo said the government of Kogi State is working with all relevant security agencies to ensure the safety of all lives and property in the state.
“According to information, 12 inmates escaped from the facility, with one already rearrested and returned to custody.
“The jailbreak theory is unacceptable to the Kogi State Government as there is clear evidence of internal compromise and collaboration, leading to the unfortunate breach,” Fanwo said in a statement.
He assured that the government is committed to delivering on its responsibility which is the protection of the people as well as maintaining law and order in the state.
“Our support extends to correctional centres within the state, reinforcing our commitment to a secure and well-managed correctional system,” he added.
