Hundreds of members of the Kwankwasiyya movement gathered in Kano on Thursday to hold special prayers for the success of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.
The Kwankwasiyya movement is the support base of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) presidential candidate, Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Governor Yusuf, the only NNPP governor in the country, is the son-in-law of Kwankwaso.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano is challenging the victory Yusuf recorded in the state’s March 18 governorship election.
As the tribunal prepares to deliver judgment in the governorship election dispute, Kwankwasiyya members have decided to seek divine intervention.
Daily Post reports that the prayers involved male and female followers of the NNPP presidential candidate and were conducted at Zaria, Maiduguri, Hadejia and Gwarzo roads, the main entrances into Kano.
Speaking at one of the prayer grounds, the chairperson of the NNPP Women Group in Kano, Hajia Zuwaira Abubakar, hinted that they are praying against persons hell-bent on removing Yusuf as governor of the state.
She said, “We are aware of the notorious and criminal underground moves to snatch our hard-earned victory of the NNPP government in Kano State and to which are asking Allah to take care of those behind such moves”.
Abubakar explained that they will not allow some disgruntled elements to take away Yusuf’s victory in the gubernatorial poll.
She described the governor’s victory in the election as a ‘popular mandate’.
