Kwankwaso hints at defection, eyes APC ticket for 2027 presidency

Former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has raised rumours of his potential defection from the opposition New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) by announcing his bid for the presidency in 2027.

According to Kwankwaso, Nigerians are dissatisfied with President Bola Tinubu’s governance, citing rising poverty levels since Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023.

Sources close to the former NNPP Presidential Candidate said Kwankwaso convened a meeting with his close allies after discussions with President Tinubu. During this meeting, he revealed an invitation to join the All Progressives Congress (APC). The source, preferring anonymity, disclosed that Kwankwaso assured his allies that even if he joined the APC, he would still vie for the presidency in 2027.

“We had a meeting with our leader after the meeting with President Tinubu. He sought our opinion on the invitation to join APC many of us were against the idea. But he took time to explain to us the benefits of joining the ruling party.

“But one interesting thing during the meeting that we cherished most was when he told us it’s an opportunity for him to be President in 2027. He told us in clear terms he would run for the office of the President. He gave us so many reasons why he thinks he stands a chance in 2027 which I won’t disclose”.
