Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has declared that the Labour Party is “fractured and broken” and not capable of winning future elections, including in 2027.
Kingibe made the comments during an interview on Channels Television aired on Tuesday.
Her words: “Yes, I am still a member of the Labour Party. But I support the ADC.
“Labour Party is in some sort of a quagmire. We are trying to put it together, but I do not see the Labour Party in the present way it is as a vehicle that can win any election. It’s been very fractured and broken.”
The senator said the party has effectively lost its hold on the FCT due to internal divisions and infighting.
“There are two factions of the Labour Party right now. We have local government elections coming… So, we needed a platform. The Labour Party would have been that platform, but it was broken,” she said.
Kingibe now aligns with the ADC, which she says has “credible candidates” and a more functional structure in the FCT.
“So, ADC has credible candidates, and it is that platform we are going to use to show them,” she stated.
