The Asari-Toru Local Government chapter of the Labour Party in Rivers has refuted claims that the state’s caretaker chairman, Hilda Dokubo, has been suspended.
Earlier reports on Friday suggested that Hilda had been suspended by her Ward 3 and Asari-Toru LGA over allegations of financial misconduct and breach of party regulations.
However, the Asari-Toru LGA Labour Party Caretaker Committee, led by Horsfall Mac-Jay, issued a statement during an executive meeting affirming Hilda Dokubo’s position as the party’s chairman in the state.
The committee urged the public to disregard the suspension claims, labeling them as the work of unidentified elements not recognized by the party.
The statement from the party reads: “It has just been brought to our attention that some agents of acrimony came up with an unfounded claim that our state chairman has been suspended by some phantom elements who are alien to our party membership register in Asari Toru.
“We want to call on the general public to disregard this purported claim, as Madam Hilda Dokubo is a person of high reputation and strong character, a defender of the interests of Asari-Toru; hence, no true son/daughter of Asari-Toru extraction can take such a cowardly move.
“Hilda Dokubo remains our party chairman and she has our support in Ward 3 and Asari-Toru LGA in general.”
The party reiterated Hilda Dokubo’s reputation and commitment to defending the interests of Asari-Toru, dismissing the suspension claims as baseless and unsupported by the true members of the Labour Party in the area.
