Oseloka Obaze, an ally to Peter Obi has listed irregularities, fraud and criminality as the major reasons why he resigned from the Labour Party.
A former governorship candidate in Anambra State, Obaze said claims that he should have stayed back in the party because of Obi does not hold water.
He also stated that loyalty to any party should not be about personal gains or its likes but by integrity and the adherence to the rule of law.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television, the former United Nations diplomat said he joined the Labour Party on a personal not and did not have to leave the party with anyone.
Describing his action as the right thing for him at the time, Obaze, however, explained that Obi is only a titular leader within the party.
He said, “Peter Obi is the titular leader, but he is not the chairman, not a member of the National Working Committee. That must be understood.”
He further stated that on different occasions, the Labour Party failed to rise above its current position due to leadership crisis.
He said, “Since the 2023 election, both the presidential and the general election, the Labour Party has gone to several elections we had the governorship election i Kogi, Imo, Bayelsa and Edo and they were all absolute disaster because the leadership either did not understand how to manage the process for a party that had become the third ranking party in Nigeria.
“And they were unwilling to listen. Anambra State presented us an opportunity to do something different and in principle, it was agreed that we would do things differently and that did not happen,” Obaze stated.
Obaze implied that because he believes that there has to be an end point to every issue, it is also important to leave those who wanted to do things differently to their devices.
“I didn’t want to be part of it,” he added.
