The Labour Party (LP) in Imo State has distanced itself from the ongoing inspection of election materials conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
INEC had displayed materials in compliance with a court order obtained by the LP to inspect Certified True Copies of documents and materials used in the November 11 governorship election.
Despite the court order, LP Chairman Mr Callistus Ihejiagwa expressed disappointment, highlighting that the LP and other parties involved hadn’t agreed on the inspection modalities. He criticized the process, asserting that the lack of agreed-upon rules hindered the inspection.
Ihejiagwa emphasized that although the LP had the court’s mandate for inspection, the absence of established guidelines from INEC prevented them from proceedin.
He stated that INEC hadn’t communicated the materials available for inspection, rendering the current situation devoid of a legitimate inspection process.
Echoing similar sentiments, PDP’s legal representative, Mr Gozie Nwachukwu, criticized the disorganized nature of the process, highlighting its inadequacy to fulfil its intended purpose.
Nwachukwu called for a reorganization by INEC to conduct the process more effectively and satisfy all stakeholders involved.
Amidst these developments, the inspection venue witnessed a considerable presence of All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters, expressing solidarity intermittently through chants.
