Labour Party Speaks On Peter Obi’s 2027 Presidential Bid

Yunusa Tanko, the Chief Spokesman for the Obi-Datti Campaign Council, has debunked a report regarding the 2027 presidential bid of its presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the Daily Post newspaper had published an article claiming that the former governor of Anambra State had revealed his intentions to run for the presidency in 2027 during an interview.

Tanko, however, denied these allegations, asserting that Peter Obi had never given any interview, either domestically or internationally, discussing his plans for the 2027 presidential race.

Tanko further warned the newspaper against propagating falsehoods about their party’s flag bearer and urged them to refrain from such fabrications.

In a statement released Monday, Tanko stated, “Our attention has been drawn to a publication in the Daily Post and some social media networks on an interview granted by His Excellency Peter Obi to Arise TV. We want to quickly point out that this is the highest level of yellow journalism taken too far, all in a bid to change the narrative, as there was no time HEPO [His Excellency Peter Obi] granted such a nebulous interview to Arise TV.”

Tanko continued, “HEPO arrived Nigeria from an overseas trip just this weekend, and for any reputable media organisation to publish such a fallacy and complete fabrication calls into question the kind of journalism some Nigerians are practising.”

The spokesperson concluded the statement by reiterating that Peter Obi did not grant an interview to any media organisation, be it in Nigeria or abroad, emphasising, “For all avoidance of doubt, HEPO did not at any time grant such an interview to any media organisation in Nigeria or outside the country. Please note!”
