Labour Party Takes Disciplinary Action Against National Treasurer, Oparah

The Labour Party has established a disciplinary committee to investigate National Treasurer Ms. Oluchi Opara.

The announcement came after an emergency meeting Tuesday evening, February 13th, presided over by Deputy National Chairman Mrs. Ladi Iliya.

Ms. Opara faces accusations of “bringing the party to disrepute and misinforming the general public on internal affairs,” a statement released by National Publicity Secretary Mr. Obiora Ifoh stated. These actions, the statement claims, violate party rules and regulations.

Ms. Opara has been summoned to appear before the committee on Wednesday, February 14th, by 10:00 AM at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.

Recall that in a press conference on Monday, Mrs. Oparah had accused the National Chairman of the party, Julius Abure, of mismanaging party funds exceeding N3.5 billion.

The funds in question allegedly originate from the proceeds of selling nomination forms and engaging in other fundraising activities for the 2023 general elections.

He said, “As National Treasurer, I am constrained to come before you and the public today because the internal mechanisms of our party have failed woefully to bring Mr Abure to account for his brazen abuse of office and misappropriation of party funds.

“His appetite for power has grown unchecked, and he has deliberately undermined my duties and authority as stipulated in the party’s constitution.”
