Following the recent Supreme Court judgment on local government financial autonomy, the Lagos State House of Assembly has summoned the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Lawal Pedro.
The lawmakers seek a better understanding of the apex court’s decision and its relation to certain constitutional provisions.
“There is a need for us to seek clarification and understanding of this judgement. It will be good to invite the Attorney General to brief us and give his understanding so that we do not run afoul of the judgment,” Speaker Mudashiru Obasa said.
In a separate development, the lawmakers praised the police for their successful operation against kidnappers in the state, resulting in the death of nine suspects.
The Assembly resolved to write letters of commendation to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, for their efforts.
Speaker Obasa commended the police officers involved in the operation and stressed the need for stakeholders to expedite considerations for state police creation to support the federal police system.
