Lagos state govt issues traffic advisory ahead of APC primaries on Saturday

The Lagos State Government has released a traffic advisory ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship and councillorship primaries scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 10.

According to a statement issued by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the primaries will be held at the APC Secretariat located on Acme Road, Ikeja.

To ensure a smooth process and minimize traffic disruptions, the government has announced road closures and alternative routes for motorists.

Osiyemi stated that the entire stretch of Acme Road will be closed to vehicular traffic for the duration of the primaries.

He said: “To aid movement, motorists coming from Adeniyi Jones are advised to link Aromire to access Allen Junction and continue their journey.

“Those coming from Allen should use Aromire to connect Ladipo Oluwole and reach Guinness Road for onward movement. Similarly, drivers from Akilo Road can use Wemco Road, link Lateef Jakande, or proceed through Omole to reach their destinations.”

He further urged motorists without urgent business in the area to avoid the Acme Road axis entirely to ease congestion.

He said officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be deployed to manage traffic and ensure orderliness along affected routes.

This advisory comes as part of preparations for the forthcoming local government elections across the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) of the state, which the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has scheduled for July 12.
