Lamido asks defectors to return to PDP, says opposition needs unity to defeat Tinubu

Former Jigawa state governor and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Sule Lamido, has called on former party leaders who defected to other political parties to return to the PDP.

Speaking at a gathering of PDP members from various chapters in Jigawa State during a breakfast meeting in his hometown of Bamaina, Birninkudu Local Government Area, Lamido stressed that the opposition cannot successfully challenge President Bola Tinubu through emotion and anger alone.

He said the PDP remains the only party with the capacity to defeat Tinubu if it consolidates its ranks and rebuilds its strength.

According to him, many key figures in other political parties initially rose to prominence through the PDP, with some securing significant public offices under its platform.

Lamido specifically urged former Governors Nasir El-Rufai, Peter Obi, Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, and others to return to the PDP and collaborate with past presidents and vice presidents to “rescue Nigeria” from the current administration.

“You cannot succeed in fighting Tinubu by emotion, anger, or revenge. It is not possible. It is better for all opposition leaders and chieftains to return to PDP and reunite with the party’s remaining members to achieve the desired objectives,” Lamido stated.

He urged defectors to see the PDP as their political home, noting that they played key roles in providing good governance under the party’s leadership between 1999 and 2015.

“When a country is in crisis and seeking a way forward, leaders must not let personal grievances cloud their vision. Panic measures will not help us,” he said.

Lamido also argued that the current administration has worsened Nigeria’s situation compared to the PDP era.

“If we remove PDP from Nigeria’s history since 1999, there is no Nigeria. Those who claim to be former governors, ministers, and parliamentarians are all products of PDP. They should return home; there is no shame in doing so,” he added.
