Betty Nambooze, a Ugandan journalist and politician was on Tuesday morning attacked by armed men. Nambooze serves as the Member of Parliament, representing Mukono Municipality, in Mukono District.
The machete-wielding attackers held Nambooze hostage in her bedroom in the wee hours of Tuesday. This newspaper understands that Nambooze survived without any serious physical injuries.
Nambooze had been arrested on numerous occasions on various politically-motivated, often trumped-up charges, but she has not as of yet been convicted in any court of law. Her life has also been threatened and even poisoned because of her political activities.
Ugandan politician and singer, Bobi Wine, expressed his worry with the situation via his known Facebook page: “I spoke to Hon. Nambooze earlier in the day and deeply empathized with her and her family about the incident. I pray that they find the strength they need to recover from it. We hope that concerned authorities will investigate this matter to it’s logical conclusion and bring the attackers to book.”
