Lawmakers Hail Fubara over Appointments of Caretaker Committees in Rivers State

Opposition federal lawmakers under the umbrella of G-60 have commended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and the people of Rivers State for the successful swearing-in of caretaker committee chairmen for the 23 local government areas.

The G-60, in a statement, praised the governor and the state legislature for filling the vacancies created by the expiration of the tenure of the former elected council chairmen.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the tenure of the previous council chairmen, who were sworn in three years ago during the Governor Nyesom Wike-led administration, expired on Monday, June 17, 2024.

The lawmakers urged the newly appointed caretaker chairmen to support Governor Fubara’s vision for the state and avoid the mistakes of their predecessors, who allegedly abandoned their responsibilities and prioritized personal interests over the welfare of the people.

The statement added, “We equally hail Governor Fubara for being democratic enough to have allowed the former Chairmen to complete their three tenure without any disruption despite the provocative acts against him. He has demonstrated maturity and leadership qualities never exhibited by Governors in the country, especially his predecessor who defiled court injunctions’ sacked and appointed a caretaker committee chairmen barely two months into office.”
