The Presidency has refuted a trending video showing the former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Adams Oshiomhole and the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, discussing the arrest of certain unnamed persons.
Recall that the Peoples Democratic Party Campaign Council for the Edo State Governorship Election had raised the alarm that Oshiomhole was seen urging Gamabari to arrest persons to achieve political suppression and submission ahead of the Edo election.
At a press conference in Abuja, on Tuesday, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, alleged that the ruling party is planning to arrest its supporters ahead of the Edo election.
Reacting to the claim of the PDP in a statement on Tuesday, Presidential Spokesman, Garba Shehu, described the trending video as “an ingenious patchwork of mischief.”
He noted that the video was extracted from an innocent conversation focused on the emerging incidents of violence in the run-up to the election. Shehu said the President did not support violence of any sort and its propagators would be brought to justice.
