Activist, Aisha Yesufu, has branded Friday’s resumption of the Lekki-Ikoyi toll gate “a dare to the citizens”.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Lekki tollgate which has been closed for months in the aftermath of the 2020 extraordinary #EndSARS protests was reopened today amid resistance from majority of the public.
There were fumes on social media. Also, residents of Lekki Phase 1, called for calm in the area even as they have written the state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu to shelve any plan to resume the tolling.
The residents under the aegis of the Lekki Peninsula Phase 1 Residents Association said the tolling may add to the economic hardship being experienced across the country.
Security vehicles and personnel were stationed at Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge to prevent any protest by residents of the area against tolling at the bridge. Yesufu, a government critic, is not happy with the reopening.
“The Lekki Toll Gate reopening is a dare to the citizens. It is time for government to fear the people’s voting power. It starts with you picking up your PVC and using it!” Yesufu wrote on her verified Twitter handle.
