Lere Olayinka, spokesperson of Ayodele Fayose, a former Governor of Ekiti State, on Wednesday suggested that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State ought to have ordered the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, to arrest an unidentified police officer, who said he is a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP).
The said CSP had argued with Governor Sanwo-Olu at Magodo on Tuesday.
In the exchange captured in a video that has gone viral, the governor was seen directing the unidentified CSP to disengage from the assignment, which he (the governor) said was illegal, considering he was not aware of the operations as the Chief Security Officer of the state.
The officer refused to disembark, explaining that he was there with his men at the orders of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) through the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF).
He also refused to put a call through to the IGP, saying he is “too small” to do that.
Reacting, Olayinka wrote on his verified Facebook page: “Governor Sanwo-Olu ought to have ordered the Lagos CP to arrest that Chief Superintendent of Police instead of asking him to call his superior.”
The Lagos State Police Commissioner and the CSP deplored to Magodo are both answerable to the IGP. The CP takes orders from his Oga IGP whose authority is higher than his Political oga.
The Governor should dialogue with the IGP and Attorney General for a diplomatic solution. No need for confrontation or show down. The CSP was not rude to the Governor, he was polite. He simply stated the obvious. Negotiation & dialogue will bring about peaceful resolution to Magodo.
