Manchester United joins race for Victor Osimhen in summer transfer window

Manchester United has reportedly entered the race to sign Nigerian and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen in the upcoming summer transfer window.

According to reports, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are gearing up for significant transfer deals, with Osimhen emerging as a top target for both teams.

The Red Devils are expected to face tough competition from PSG and Chelsea, who have also expressed strong interest in securing the services of the prolific Napoli striker during the summer transfer window.

Victor Osimhen committed to a new long-term contract with Napoli in December 2023, featuring a release clause of €130 million.

Napoli’s president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, confirmed the likelihood of Osimhen’s departure during the summer, given the intense interest from top European clubs.

The 25-year-old Nigerian striker has become a sought-after player in the summer transfer market.

Manchester United, under manager Erik ten Hag, views Osimhen as an ideal addition to their squad.

According to the Independent, “Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United are emerging as two of the main contenders to land the signature of Napoli’s Victor Osimhen this summer, with both clubs keen to make different statements in the transfer market.”

Despite missing several matches due to injuries and international duties with Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Osimhen has contributed 13 goals and four assists from 22 games for Napoli in the Serie A this season.

His impressive performances were pivotal in Napoli securing their first Serie A title in over 30 years last season, with Osimhen scoring 31 goals and providing five assists.

Osimhen’s goal-scoring prowess and proven track record in Europe’s top leagues make him an attractive target for Manchester United, and his potential move to Old Trafford would be a significant statement for the club.

Since joining Napoli in 2020, Osimhen has scored 61 goals and provided 16 assists in 99 Serie A appearances, establishing himself as one of the top strikers in European football.
