Media strategist, Demola Olarewaju joins race for Lagos PDP spokesperson

A Lagos Public Relations Consultant, Demola Olarewaju on Tuesday officially joined the race to become the next State Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Olarewaju was until June last year the Head of Corporate Affairs of TStv Africa, an Abuja-based digital satellite company.

A prominent member of the PDP, Olarewaju has been a frontline advocate of the party on social media as well as various programmes on radio and television. Before going into the corporate world, Olarewaju had overseen the media engagements of former Minister, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro before 2015 and also led the Lagos digital media arm of Goodluck Jonathan’s presidential campaign in 2015.

He had then worked with presidential aspirants and former Governor Sule Lamido before teaming up with the eventual candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar as the Director of Digital Media Strategy in the PDP presidential campaign structure.

Olarewaju had led the PDP digital media operations in various elections under the office of the National Publicity Secretary including the Osun election in support of Senator Ademola Adeleke as well as the Edo gubernatorial election.

His entry into the race has received widespread support from the digital media world as well as with stakeholders in the party who desire a spokesperson conversant with all forms of modern communications.

Announcing his ambition via his known Twitter handle, Olarewaju wrote this: “In 2016, I aspired to be Lagos PDP State Publicity Secretary but kept it out of the public eye – and lost out.

“This time I go again, and I’ve learnt to go with my generation:

“Not because you can vote for me but because your goodwill can spur this aspiration into manifestation.

“Never said this before: @ose_anenih was practically the only one on this app that found out I was running for the position back then, like a day or two to Congress. We’d never met before but he asked how much I needed and I told him a sum; he sent it. God bless you again bro. Was adopted by a major camp, headed by a former Minister whom I was then very close to.

“A sitting Governor was pushing hard for me but the positions were shared between the major camps in the party and SPS didn’t come to us.

“All part of the journey sha, this time: we win.”

The PDP Lagos State Elective Congress is expected to hold in February 19.
