A former Nigerian Military Head of State, Ibrahim Babangida has described the flooding that ravaged four communities in Mokwa, Niger State as the will of God.
Babangida said the flood incident was beyond human powers as over 150 lives were lost.
Recall that communities in Mokwa were ravaged by a flood which killed several residents, displaced others and submerged various private and government-owned properties.
With several relevant agencies present in Mokwa to support the residents at various levels of their needs, the members of the communities have called for a long-lasting approach to avoid such mishaps.
However, Babangida while condoling with the people of Mokwa and the government of the state urged residents to continue to pray for the souls of the deceased.
“What happened in Mokwa is unfortunate but it is ordained by Allah. It is beyond our powers and this is why we should all continue to pray for the souls of the deceased,” Babangida noted.
He also urged residents of Niger to remain committed to praying for peace, unity and stability in the state.
Babangida made these remarks while playing host to Niger State government delegates led by Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba at his residence in Minna.
He also commended the state government led by Governor Umar Bago for his efforts towards the development of the state.
He appealed to the governor to ensure that developmental initiatives in the state are sustained.
Also speaking, Garba said the team visited Babangida because they were aware of his concern over the flooding incident in the state.
The deputy governor said, “The people of Niger State and Nigeria in general are appreciative of your diligent service to the country and we assure you that the State Government will not fail you as you remain a pillar of hope for the Nation.”
Very fatalistic narratives, when they fail in drawing masterplans for a terrain that is likely and prone to be flooded on seasonal basis. What is the will of God in this? our God is not wicked as to allow over a hundred human perish as a result of man’s greed and carelessness.
