
The government of Niger State has begun the reconstruction of bridges and the roads linking the different communities in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State.
The governor of the state, Umaru Bago made this disclosure while visiting victims of the flooding that killed over 150 people in Mokwa and displaced several others.
The flood also destroyed bridges and roads in the communities while homes and properties of residents worth millions were submerged in water.
According to the governor, the contract for the reconstruction of the roads and bridges has already been awarded.
Bago while directing the Minister of Land and Survey to issue a certificate of occupancy (C of O) to the government at the national level to facilitate the immediate construction of the resettlement homes for the flood victims said the project would cost an estimated sum of N7 billion.
Also announcing a donation of N1 billion to residents affected by the flood, Bago said 10 trucks each of rice, beans, maize, millet and sorghum would be delivered to the victims.
The governor further stated that all arrangements needed to ensure that the displaced victims do not spend more time than necessary in the camps would be put in place.
He commended the Federal Government, donor agencies and individuals who have for their support for the state and the victims of the flood.
Bago also prayed to the repose of the souls of those who were lost in the flood.
