The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State has rejected Governor Hyacinth Alia’s announcement of Benjamin Omakolo as the party’s acting chairman, calling it “unknown to the party” and “null and void.”
In a press statement released Thursday, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Daniel Ihomun, denounced the move as an attempt to “undermine the party leadership and Constitution” by “anti-democratic agents.”
“We read on social media platforms that the suspended state Welfare Secretary of the APC, Hon. Benjamin Omakolo, has been inaugurated by Governor Alia as acting Chairman,” Ihomun stated. “This action is completely unknown to the party and therefore holds no weight whatsoever.”
Ihomun said the National Secretariat of the APC has reinstated Comrade Austin Agada as the rightful chairman of the Benue State chapter and urged party members and the public to disregard Governor Alia’s announcement.
“All well-meaning members of the party have returned to the status quo,” he said.
