Multichoice Nigeria has expressed its dissatisfaction with the recent court ruling directing it to offer a month of free subscription to its subscribers on the DStv and GOtv platforms.
The company says it intends to file an appeal against the ruling.
The Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal (CCPT) had on Friday ordered Multichoice Nigeria to provide a one-month free subscription to its subscribers, in addition to a fine of N150 million for challenging the court’s jurisdiction.
The tribunal had earlier restrained the company from increasing the prices of its DStv and GOtv packages without proper notice.
In a statement, Multichoice Nigeria said, “We are aware of the recent ruling by the CCPT regarding its jurisdiction to entertain a price regulation matter. We disagree with the ruling, and will therefore file an appeal against said ruling.”
The company added that as the matter is currently under legal review, it is restrained from making further comments.
