Muslim groups reveal IPOB’s “evil intention”

A coalition of Muslim groups, Muslims United for Peace and Justice, has urged the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to urgently curtail the activities of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing Eastern Security Network (ESN), saying their “evil plan” is to throw Nigeria into another civil war.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the coalition includes Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), Al-Usrah Incorporated, Port Harcourt Rivers State, Islamic Forum, Movement for Islamic Culture and Awareness, Muslim Public Affairs Centre, and The Academy.

It said their response was a sign of deep-rooted Islamophobia.

“It is clear that their evil intention is to provoke a reprisal on Nigerians of Igbo (or southern extraction) living up North and thus throw the country into another civil war. We, therefore, commend our northern compatriots for not taking that evil bait,” a statement by the group reads in part.

IPOB has been accused of violence, but the group often denies being responsible for brutality.
