Bola Tinubu, presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), on Friday sent a congratulatory message to Reverend Daniel Okoh, the new president of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that CAN had been critical of Tinubu over his decision to pick a fellow Muslim, Kashim Shettima, as his running mate for the 2023 election. In fact, some Christian stakeholders asked their co-believers in Nigeria not to vote for the APC in the 2023 presidential poll over the former Lagos State governor’s choice.
Nonetheless, Tinubu sent his best wishes to the new CAN helsman.
“I congratulate Rev. Okoh on his election as the new president of CAN. Noting that Rev. Okoh had truly distinguished himself as the deputy to Rev. Samson Supo Ayokunle, ” Tinubu’s statement reads in part.
“We are grateful that CAN as an organization embodies these and other principles that reflect the values and virtues of Christ. We are glad that the new President of CAN, Rev. Okoh, is a humane and kind soul who has dedicated his life to the betterment of his fellow man and is a person who will work with leaders of other faiths and beliefs to anneal the bonds of unity.”
