The presidential candidate of the Labour Party for the 2023 election, Peter Obi, has said that his daughter, Gabriella Nwamaka Frances, is a teacher in Lagos because the state is safer.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Obi said although his daughter prefers to teach in the “village”, the worrying security situation dissuaded her.
The Labour Party candidate was speaking at a town-hall meeting in Bayelsa State on Friday, which preceded his presidential campaign rally in the state.
“My daughter doesn’t want to live outside Nigeria. She came back on our own and said ‘I can’t stay in UK and work; I want to teach in a secondary school in my village. That is what I want to do. Wherever I can teach the students’. Because of what we are saying today, security and everything, she teaches in a secondary school in Lagos.
“She lives in Lagos, she is a teacher and she enjoys it. She is not paid millions but she is fine with it,” Obi said.

One of Obi’s challengers is Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Tinubu governed Lagos from 1999 to 2007.
