Ireti Kingibe Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory at the Nigerian Senate has slammed Nyesom Wike over the insecurity in the territory.
Kingibe also called for more investment in security rather than the multiple infrastructural projects carried out by the FCT Minister.
Speaking during an interview with Channels Television, Kingibe said, “Being a successful minister isn’t about infrastructure. Look at the insecurity, a few days ago, a patient was discharged from Cedarcrest Hospital. On his way back, he was hacked to death.
“Dead people do not use roads.
“The FCT is unsafe. Go out at 10 o’clock at night and see how many cars you see on the road, everybody is running indoors, the FCT is unsafe. I have lived here since 1988, and the FCT is unsafe,” she said.
Speaking on her expectations from the Minister, Kingibe said there is a need to ensure that the FCT, also referred to as the seat of power is highly secure.
According to her, the FCT cannot afford to have “only pockets of insecurity” as claimed by the minister.
“And because this is where the president is, because this is where the National Assembly is, this is the nation’s capital. It cannot be on the level of, oh! There are pockets of insecurity here and there.
“There was once a time I could get up and go to Gwagwalada at midnight, if I tried it now, even with my armed guards, I may be lucky to get back alive.
“So don’t tell me, ask the average man on the street how secure he feels. My cook, a few days ago, he doesn’t live far, just down the road from me, they took his phones.
“Anytime my children go out, I cannot sleep, so that is us, we are the elites, we have armed guards, we have police, we have everything.
“If you walk around as I do sometimes, walk around the neighbourhood – in Maitama, all those places, every other gate has armed policemen. So where are the police to now guard the rest of the country and the rest of you,” Kingibe noted.
