Olisa Metuh, former national publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Friday said his yearslong ordeal at the hands of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was “pure political persecution”.
POLITICS NIGERIA recalls that a Federal High Court in Abuja in May fixed June 22 to hear a suit filed by the EFCC for the retrial of Metuh.
The court fixed the date following the EFCC’s appeal at the Supreme Courtl of the judgment delivered by the Court of Appeal in favour of Metuh.
Metuh was earlier jailed for seven years over corruption charges, but his conviction was set aside and a fresh trial was ordered by the Court of Appeal in Abuja in December 2020.
Reacting to a taunt by a Facebook user over his alleged fraud case, Metuh wrote on his known Facebook page: “There was never any stolen money, pure political persecution. Besides I started kingdom principles 13yrs ago, embrace it and you’ll be a happier person.”
