Prince Kanu Meme, a brother to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Friday asked the Federal Government of Nigeria to release his sibling because it filed “frivolous charges it can’t prove”.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Prince Meme made his demand to the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Ibrahim Tanko, via his known Facebook page.
“Federal Government files frivolous charges it can’t prove. Chief Justice Of Nigeria, Tanko Muhammad. MNK Must Be Freed,” Prince Meme wrote.
This newspaper recalls that detained Kanu who was rearrested in Kenya in June 2021, demanded his freedom, as he challenged the validity of the 15-count amended charge the Federal Government preferred against him.
On Wednesday, during resumed hearing of the alleged terrorism offences against him, Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court Abuja, fixed April 8, 2022 for ruling on a preliminary objection filed by his legal team.
The court fixed the date after his counsel, Mike Ozekhome, and the prosecution counsel, Shuaibu Labaran, argued for and against the defendant’s preliminary objection.
