Naira Swap: “Malami is a Public Enemy like Emefiele” – Tinubu

The spokesperson for Bola Tinubu’s presidential campaign, Bayo Onanuga, has declared Nigeria’s Attorney General, Abubakar Malami, a “public enemy” in the same vein as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.

Onanuga made this statement in response to a preliminary objection filed by the justice minister, Abubakar Malami through his lawyers, to dismiss a lawsuit brought forward by three northern governors to the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

The lawsuit was an effort by Governors Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna, Yahaya Bello of Kogi, and Bello Matawalle of Zamfara to halt the implementation of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) naira redesign policy. The governors claimed that the notice timeline for the policy was too short and did not meet the legal requirements for reasonable notice.

They also accused the presidency of not doing enough to facilitate the transition of the notes.

The federal government, under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari, argued that the Supreme Court lacked jurisdiction to entertain the lawsuit. The Attorney General further contended that the plaintiffs had not shown sufficient cause for the lawsuit.
