A pro-democracy group known as The Natives has declared that Vice-President Kashim Shettima saved the country from a crisis.
The group was reacting to the role Shettima played in ensuring that lawmakers at the National Assembly voted for the candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) while electing their leaders.
The group revealled that Shettima convinced Hon Muktar Betara and Hon Yusuf Gadji, to step down for Tajudeen Abbas, to emerge as the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Politics Nigeria recalls that Shettima made headlines when he declared that it was better for the least qualified Southern Christian to emerge as the Senate President over a northern Muslim.
Addressing a press conference on Friday, June 16, the leader of the group, Smart Edwards, described Shettima as a patriot.
“Of particular mention is Kashim Shettima, whose singular action in defiance against the cacophony of misleading voices that sort to plunder us into another crisis, played a significant role that eroded the sponsors of national sabotage,” he said.
The group also commended the role of all 36 state governors in the emergence of National Assembly leaders.
Edwards added that with the National Assembly leadership now in place, President Bola Tinubu should work towards improving the living condition of Nigerians.
