NDDC Probe: Senate fumes as Akpabio ignores panel

The Senate has berated the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, for failing to attend an investigative public hearing on the alleged misappropriation in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the Red Chamber is probing the N40bn allegedly misappropriated by the Interim Management Committee of the commission within the last three months.

During the hearing on Thursday, the Chairman of the Senate ad hoc committee, Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi, condemned Akpabio for failing to acknowledge or respond to any of his committee’s invitations.

He expressed disappointment that the minister, who was a former colleague and knows his working of the Red Chamber, would ignore the panel’s letters.

The Senator also slammed Akpabio for shunning the letter requesting him to provide an update on the forensic audit he is supervising at the commission.

Adetunmbi said the excuse by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Aminu Bisalla, that Akpabio was attending to some national issues, was not acceptable.
