NDLEA explains why it picked Naira Marley for drug abuse advocacy

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has explained why it enlisted Azeez Fashola, aka Naira Marley, for its drug abuse advocacy.

The spokesman of the NDLEA, Femi Babafemi, in an interview on Saturday, August 19, with Beats said the agency chose the artiste because has a lot of young followers who look up to him.

Babafemi said it will be wise to have someone like him come out and speak against drug abuse, but added that the organisation will not hesitate to arrest him if he is found guilty of the crime.

Babafemi said: “It is an advocacy engagement with him. It is what we do as part of the responsibilities of the agency to promote advocacy messages that would discourage people from substance abuse. It is about the message.

“Don’t forget that he has a lot of young followers— Marlians— that look up to him. The idea is for the leader of the movement (Marlians) to come out and ask people to stop substance abuse, and live a new life.”

Recall that Ossai Success, an aide to former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, has vowed to sue the NDLEA if he catches Marley smoking again.
