NEC Meeting: Anyanwu is the Valid National Secretary – INEC tells PDP Committee

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has maintained that it recognizes Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

POLITICS NIGERIA learned that the Chairman of the Governors’ Forum, Bala Mohammed, setup a committee comprising of Governors Agbu Kefas, Peter Mbah and Dauda Lawal to interface with the electoral body on resolving the crisis rocking the party over the National Secretaryship Position.

Relying on the Judgement of the Supreme court earlier this year, the Commission clearly stated that Anyanwu was the valid National Secretary of the Party.

According to a statement seen by this newspaper, INEC made the following submissions;

“That the commission still recognized Sen. Anyanwu as the National Secretary of the Party in consonance with the Supreme Court judgment.”

“That there’s no vacancy to be replaced until Anyanwu is removed in accordance with the Constitution of the Party,”

“That a notice of 21 days should be given to the commission for any of such meeting to remove and or replace an official of the Party.”

“That the NEC meeting should be in compliance with the provision of the Party’s Constitution and requirements in the Electoral Act in the case of removal/appointment of an Official of the Party.”

This newspaper gathered that the committee has since relayed its findings to the Governors Forum of the Party. Senator Anyanwu, who secured the National Secretaryship at the party’s last convention, has continued to assert his mandate.

Party stakeholders believe that this new development will reinforce Anyanwu’s position and discourage further unilateral attempts at leadership change without due process.
