Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has issued a directive to freeze all government bank accounts until further notice.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the order, which took effect on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, was conveyed in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Chidiebere Onyia.
The statement read, “Following the directive given by the Enugu State Governor to freeze all government accounts in all the banks in Enugu State, I hereby direct that all Enugu State Government accounts be frozen with immediate effect, till further notice.”
In addition, the state government has urged former political appointees and office holders from the previous administration to comply with the earlier directive issued by the former Secretary to the State Government, Professor Simeon Otuanya.
The directive requires them to hand over all government assets to the appropriate authorities in their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) by Wednesday, May 31, 2023.
The categories of individuals affected include former Chief Executive Officers of Government-Owned Companies, Board Chairmen and Members of Government-Owned Companies, Executive Secretaries of Parastatals or Government-Owned Companies, State Project Coordinators of World Bank-Assisted Projects, and other political appointees as listed in the memo by the former Secretary to the State Government.
