New Leadership Emerges as PDP Names Chairman in Anambra

Chidi Chidebe has been elected as the new Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra following a tightly contested congress held on Thursday, October 24, at the Women Development Centre in Awka.

Chidebe, the former PDP Youth Leader in the state, garnered 1,080 votes to defeat Amechi Onowu, who secured 960 votes.

Alongside Chidebe, Charles Anierobi was elected Deputy Chairman, while Mr Ebele Onunkwo emerged as the party’s new Secretary.

Ifeanyi Ossai, the Deputy Governor of Enugu State and Chairman of the Anambra PDP Congress Committee, oversaw the congress.

Ossai praised the peaceful and transparent conduct of the election and expressed confidence in the new leadership’s ability to rebuild the party in the state.

He highlighted the importance of unity within the party and urged Chidebe to unite all factions, including those who contested but were unsuccessful.

“Anambra is critical to the future of the PDP,” Ossai noted. “Victory can only be achieved when we work together under one umbrella. I encourage the new leadership to embrace all members, especially those who didn’t win, to ensure the party’s success.”

The election follows an earlier attempt to hold the congress, which was postponed. Ossai expressed satisfaction that his promise of a free, fair, and transparent election was fulfilled.
