“New Tax Reform Act a big relief for low and middle earners” – Presidential aide Nweze

The Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Community Engagement (South East), Chioma Nweze has described the new Tax Reform

Act as a huge relief for low and middle-income earners across Nigeria.

Nweze while speaking at a Mega Tax Reform Act and Compliance Awareness Programme in Enugu said the Act aims to support Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), attract investors, and ensure a fairer distribution of resources for businesses across Nigeria.

At an event themed, “Tax Reform Acts and Compliance: Impact on Small and Medium Enterprises in the South East”, Nweze noted that the reforms have been designed to ease the burden on the poor, strengthen governance, and boost government revenue for national development.

In the same vein, Nweze charged Nigerian students to take advantage of the NELFUND student loan, which will open doors of opportunity for them to pursue education without financial barriers.

She highlighted some of the initiatives championed by her office which include skills acquisition where beneficiaries from the 95 Local Government Areas in the South East have been empowered through various vocational and entrepreneurial skills programs.

Also, through an Empowerment and Grants initiative, graduates of these programs in the region have received starter packs and financial grants for the immediate launch of their businesses.

In addition, there is the Free Medical Outreach which gives room for regular free medical programs including cancer treatment, dialysis, and eye screenings, have been extended to communities across the region; opportunities which has led to the employment of over 1,000 persons into various government parastatals and agencies and the establishment of ag least one Small and Medium Enterprise in each of the 95 LGAs in the South East to boost local economic growth.

She also stated that through the ICT and Point of Presence (POP) skills acquisition program, beneficiaries have acquired vital skills aimed at preparing them for opportunities in today’s digital economy.

Nweze further reaffirmed that the South East would focus on result-driven initiatives rather than engage in politics of sentiment or emotion.

She said, “Instead, we will vote massively for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027, in recognition of his genuine commitment to the growth and development of our region.”

The event was well attended by leaders of chambers of commerce, industry players, SMEs, market women, and other stakeholders across the five South-Eastern states.
